As parents we are thrown all of this advice, from every one, neighbors, friends, and family. But One thing that really helped me as a parent of multiple young children. Is science!
Positive reinforcement is one that really helped me as a parent. However, I didn't really learn about this until I entered the field of ABA (applied behavior analysis) as well as us experiencing this therapy in our home for our children!
What is this positive reinforcement you wonder. This occurs when something is presented immediately following a behavior and as a result, that behavior that you are wanting to see occurs more often in the future.
The simple thing to remember here is this: A behavior occurs such as "asking for a drink" instead of hitting you, and you immediately provide positive reinforcement by providing the drink.
This is such a huge tool to remember when working with your children. This one thing will help you get those desired behaviors going with your children. Because our science tells us that reinforcement increases the future frequency of behavior.
